Amish Folk Art scenes, hand painted by Nancy Stephens Donatelli, highlight the Amish lifestyle in the Western Pennsylvania Amish Community of Volant.

Each scene is of an authentic Amish landmark, historical site, or a representation of the lifestyle of the Amish community. This unique Candle/Artwork combination is a welcome addition to the décor of any style of home. The owner of these candles can enjoy both the Artwork and the wonderful scents of candles made by the Old Candle Shed, located in nearby Grove City, PA.

Each piece of artwork is affixed to a handmade candle and accompanied by a history of the work to help bring the artwork to life for the owner.

Nancy Stephens Donatelli, the featured artist in this line of Artwork, is a resident Artist at the Blue Heron Art Gallery and Cultural Center located in Volant PA. Her artwork, as well as that of many other artists is on display and available for sale at the gallery.

“Pumpkins For Sale
Each fall fields and farms in this community produce an abundance of pumpkins to the delight of those who want to carve jack ‘o lanterns, bake pumpkin pies or just decorate their home for the harvest season.

“Banks Bridge”
Banks Bridge spans Neshannock Creek on the road leading from Neshannock Falls road to Rich Hill. Built in 1889, this covered bridge is made of heavy timbers with huge stone abutments. Fans of the TV series “West Wing” will remember scenes of this bridge in the show’s season opener in 2002.

“Flags In The Square”
In 1982 Sean Stover’s Eagle Scout Community Service Project was providing flags for New Wilmington’s town square. His mother and step-father, Sue and John Garrett, helped Sean with this project. After graduating from high school, Sean joined the Air Force. His family has continued to care for and place his flags in the square on all patriotic holidays. In 2001, the flags flew continuously from September 12th until Veterans Day.

"Spring Plowing"
Horses don’t get stuck in the spring mud and soft ground. However, those who farm with tractors must wait until the earth has dried out before they can start plowing. Our Amish neighbors get “the jump” on their English counterparts when it comes to spring plowing since their “tractors” just keep on moving along the furrowed fields.

"Gone Hunting"
Glorious fall days see cars, trucks and buggies parked in Game Land lots and along back roads as hunters take to the woods in search of game.
